Fixing the Disinformation Age

Solving the problem of the corruptibility of our social media ecosystem (as so ably demonstrated by Elon Musk) is an important step in healing our public discourse.

Somehow users need to have simultaneous access to the advantages of the Fediverse (primarily decentralization) and Bluesky (no confusion to get started) or else users of both ecosystems need to be able to interact across that divide more fully.

Recess Appointments

What do you call a president who is not accountable to Congress or the the system of checks and balances established by the Constitution?

That’s what Trump has asked Senate Republicans to help him be.

From Mourning to Morning

I’m finished with my bout of pessimism. No, things aren’t any better than they were when it became clear that Trump would win, but I am focusing on the proactive work that we need to do. I’ll spend my energy building the America around me that is still/always within reach.

And if you still need to do some grieving I’ll be over here—working with those who are ready but not judging anyone—until you are in the headspace to join in the proactive work.

Trump’s deportation priority

Come see a teenager demonstrate a better grasp of the intersection between immigration and our economy than our president elect seems to have. Continue reading

Setting Expectations

My plan with regard to Platform 2028 is to outline the main points before inauguration day in January and then spend the months and years after that drilling down to specifics, modifying as needed with changing circumstances, and pointing out … Continue reading

Crafting Platform 2028

We need to start the process now of formulating a policy platform that strengthens America and addresses the prevailing concerns of voters. (Prevailing concerns means it will have to shift over time as conditions evolve.)

Please join me in this process by challenging my assumptions and helping me hone my thinking as I try to identify a platform that would help us move toward the promise of America rather than leaving voters so hungry for change that they’d vote in someone who would trample on our Constitution to get what he wants.

What if Trump was right?

Provocative title but I think it’s important to challenge assumptions about polarizing issues because if our assumptions are faulty we will find it very difficult to find resolutions as we try to tackle them.

So, what if Trump was right that a majority of voters are willing to address restrictive abortion bans at the state level? Continue reading

Assigning blame

In any rational world Donald Trump would never have been returned to power after repeatedly shooting himself in the foot between his nonsensical COVID response, January 6th, and stealing classified documents when he left office.

Instead, 3 men made choices that set up the ideal conditions to make his return possible. In chronological order they are:
• Kevin McCarthy
• Mitch McConnell
• Joe Biden

When to cast a 3rd Party Vote

To Jill Stein voters in 2024: please consider what a 3rd party vote effectively means.

When deciding to cast a 3rd party vote in a competitive race you are effectively voting for whichever major candidate you like the least.

This should only be done if no viable candidate is a demonstrably worse outcome in the race.

Harris’s closing argument

Harris’s closing argument consisted of 3000 words over just under 40 minutes.

27 thoughts included:
• 8 policy ideas (middle class tax cut, cap drug costs, address housing problems, child tax credit, home care for seniors, protect social security, reinstate reproductive choice, immigration)
• 6 about Trump
• 13 framing the election
